Tui, Magnolia, and Baby Animals

Signs of springtime in Taranaki:

Magnolia trees

Tui - easy to recognize with the white poi under its chin.

The tui does not migrate and is not a threatened species, so I assume tui surround me all year. I only seem to notice them in the springtime, though, because they "sing" more often in the spring.  The tui call is a "loud and complicated mix of tuneful notes interspersed with coughs, grunts and wheezes."  I think they sound like a bird-like R2D2.

It's hard to see the tui in these videos, but you can hear it.

Another sign of spring - lambs and calves
